Citizenships

Citizenship

Eligibility for citizenship is determined by the Department of Home Affairs who manage all enquiries for becoming an Australian citizen. Citizenship information and application forms are only available from their website. Councils do not have any oversight of eligibility of candidates.

For all enquiries about becoming a citizen candidates should contact the Department of Home Affairs direct on 131 881.

Citizenship Ceremonies

The Copper Coast Council conducts conferral ceremonies for approved Australian Citizenship applicants residing in the Council area. Ceremonies are arranged when the Council is advised by the Department of Home Affairs that there are applicants available for conferral in the Council area. Queries about citizenship applications, citizenship ceremonies and citizenship certificates can be addressed to the Department of Home Affairs by phone to 131 881 or by email to ceremony.sa@homeaffairs.gov.au .

The web link for citizenship is  https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/citizenship/

Council is unable to organise a citizenship ceremony without being advised first by the Department of Home Affairs. Please note that there may be a lapse in time between individual participants being notified by the Department and Council receiving that advice.

Once Council has received notification from the Department, the Conferee will be contacted by a Council Officer to organise a convenient time for the formal ceremony to take place. It is essential that the ceremony arrangements comply with the requirements of the Australian Citizenship Ceremonies Code and the Officer will discuss this with the Conferee during that first contact.
