FULL STEAM AHEAD FOR CHILD CARE IN THE COPPER COAST

Copper Coast Council is aware of the significant waiting list for early learning child care in our region and is working to increase accessibility of these services.

After being approached by the Kadina Child Care Centre regarding the matter, Council is working with the Centre on a long term lease of Crown Land at Section 746 Doswell Terrace, Kadina to build a new facility.

“The Kadina Child Care Centre currently has 53 placements, with 54 on a waiting list,” Mayor Roslyn Talbot said.

“With a large parcel of land near the Kadina Dog Park currently not used, we are investigating amending the Community Land Management Plan, so the Kadina Child Care Centre can cater for the Copper Coast’s high demand for additional child care facilities.”

The use and lease of this land will be subject to Public Consultation and the approval processes required. This will occur soon.

A minimum 116 place facility will help to cater for the Copper Coast and adjoining areas. The Kadina Child Care Centre is already licensed, which will assist in progressing a new, larger facility.

Management Committee Chairperson Leanne Allen, Director Caren Hammerstein and their Kadina Child Care Centre Committee members have been busy behind the scenes trying to work out ways to meet the families and community needs.

“We are thinking innovatively, we hear the needs of the local community and are hopeful that we will be able to fulfill these in providing early learning child care to meet the Copper Coast’s high demands,” both Ms Allen and Hammerstein said.

“This is the first stage in a long process—we will continue to work tirelessly while updating families and the community when we are able to via emails, notifications and through social media.

“We wish to thank the Copper Coast Council for working with us to address the rise in child care needs within the Copper Coast and Yorke Peninsula surrounding areas.

“As we work towards achieving our goals, we ask families and the community if they have any ideas or suggestions of what a new facility may look like or include, to share these via email to director@kadinaccc.org.au.

“This is a very exciting time for Yorke Peninsula communities.”
