STATE BICYCLE FUND DEED—WALLAROO TO MOONTA SHARED PATH

Council has signed the State Bicycle Fund Deed to secure a further $187,800 in funding for the Wallaroo to Moonta Shared Path.

This brings the total funding to $1.5M for the project, including a Council contribution of $639,802 and $150,000 for Project Management.

We thank the State Government, who has also given a further $418,000 through the State Open Space Program for 2021/22, and the Federal Government ($104,398 from the Federal Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program - Phase 3) for their contributions.

Works on this approximate 14.9 kilometre path are set to commence next month and the finished product will start in Wallaroo off Ryan Street, intersecting the Kadina to Wallaroo Shared Path.

The trail then follows Ryan Street onto Cornish Tce, down Park Tce and onto a small section of Magazine Rd before following the old train line towards Moonta and finishes out onto Mines Road (near the old Moonta Railway Station).

Council is working with Moonta National Trust and Heritage SA to ensure the timber sleepers and rails of the former railway line remain intact.

The project will also tie in with the Moonta Mining Precinct – Conservation Management Plan and have connecting paths to showcase the Moonta Mines.

This path will link the Peninsula’s three largest urban centres of Kadina, Moonta and Wallaroo and enable locals and tourists with an active lifestyle to safely and leisurely explore more of the Copper Coast.
