Objections and Other Information
Objection to Valuation
You may object to the valuation referred to in a rates notice by writing to the Valuer-General within 60 days of the first-Rate notice of the financial year, being served (in accordance with Section 169 of the Act). You may not object to the valuation if the Valuer-General has already considered an objection to that valuation.
A written objection to valuation must set out the full and detailed grounds for objection, including any supporting material.
Objections can be submitted to the Office of the Valuer-General via:
- Online: www.valuergeneral.sa.gov.au
- Email: OVGObjections@sa.gov.au
- Post: GPO Box 1354, Adelaide 5001
- In-person: Land Services SA, Level 9, 101 Grenfell Street, Adelaide
The Valuer General may extend the 60-day objection period, where it can be shown that there is reasonable cause to do so.
Fact sheets can be viewed here.
Further information is provided on the back of rate notices or by telephoning 1300 653 346.
Rates are still due and payable by the due date even if an objection to valuation has been lodged.
Objection to Land Use
Differential General Rates applied by Council are based on various land use categories (as set out in Council’s Rating Policy, and shown on rate notices). Should you have any reason to believe that the land use category applied to your property is incorrect, you may lodge a written objection to Council outlining the reasons for your objection.
Objections must be submitted to Council within 60 days of receiving your rates notice. The Council may, in its discretion, allow an extension of time if a person entitled to make an objection shows that there is reasonable cause to do so.
Rates are still due and payable by the due date even if an objection has been lodged.
Voters Roll
Persons on the State House of Assembly Electoral Roll are automatically included in Council’s Voters Roll and are entitled to vote in Council elections. Others who are ratepayers may also be entitled to be on the Voters Roll but will need to apply for enrolment. If you have any queries, please contact Senior Rates Officer on (08) 8828 1200.
