NEW INITIATIVE TO AID DISABILITY ACCESSIBILITY

Copper Coast Council is pleased to be one of the first South Australian Local Government Areas to install a disability accessibility widget to their website.

The UserWay widget is the number one web accessibility solution for Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and is now installed across all pages on our website.

This widget enables easier navigation across the Council website with tools to aid those who live with visual and motor impairments, colour blindness, dyslexia, cognitive & learning difficulties, seizures, epilepsy and ADHD by using AI technology to transform our website into assessable formats.

Councillor Cathy Vluggen was first introduced to the new widget during a Local Government Disability Access Inclusion Network earlier in the month before presenting the idea to Council staff to investigate its implementation.

“As a member of the DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) committee, Cathy and the team are always looking to improve accessibility and inclusion in our region,” Mayor Roslyn Talbot said.

“There is a greater proportion of people under 65 years of age living with disability in Copper Coast than for Regional SA and we need to assist wherever we can.

“This widget will help people better navigate our website and find the information they are after regarding Council services, facilities and more.”

Mayor Talbot said Council is pleased to partner with UserWay, who has a proven track record servicing some of the world’s biggest brands including Coca Cola, Disney and Toyota.

“It’s a cost-effective way to ensure our website remains compliant with the latest rules and regulations that enable more people to perceive, understand, navigate and interact with what we are doing at Council,” Mayor Talbot said.

“As technology enhances, we want enhance with it and make the Copper Coast the Lifestyle Location of Choice for all residents and visitors.”
