COPPER COAST TO HOST 2023 SA MASTERS GAMES
Sport SA would like to announce and congratulate the Copper Coast Council on their successful bid to host the 2023 South Australian Masters Games.
Mayor Roslyn Talbot said: “We are honoured to be hosting the SA Masters Games again in 2023 after the success of 2021. Despite the unpredictability of COVID-19 restrictions, Council staff and more than 100 volunteers banded together to host our first SA Masters Games in 2021, where a record-breaking 1651 participants competed across 29 sports. The Copper Coast is prepared to go above and beyond again for this highly sought-after event to ensure the continued success and prestige of the Masters Games reputation. Our community has shown it has the passion and facilities to host the Sport SA Masters Games and the Copper Coast is looking forward to the challenge of making the event bigger and better in 2023”.
The Copper Coast Games will run from 20-23 April and will include over 30 sports over the four day program.
This event is for local, regional and interstate competitors and is likely to attract international competitors on a sporting holiday. Within easy reach of Adelaide, the Games will appeal to the huge contingent of passionate Masters athletes who travel far and wide for their sporting events.
Sport SA CEO Leah Cassidy said: “Congratulations to the Copper Coast Council on being awarded the 2023 Masters Games. Their strong bid filled us with confidence that they will put on a great sporting event. The Copper Coast’s beachside location is one of the most popular South Australian tourist destinations and will showcase the beautiful surrounds and some new sporting facilities for the Games. Copper Coast will have sporting precincts where groups of sports are played to build the atmosphere and excitement of the Games.
Masters Sport is a great way to enjoy lifelong involvement in sport as part of an active, balanced and healthy lifestyle for all South Australians. I urge all sporting people to visit Kadina, Moonta and Wallaroo in the Copper Coast region, enjoy the local hospitality and be a part of the 2023 South Australian Masters Games”.
