COMMUNITY EVENTS ADDED TO COPPER COAST CYCLING CUP

As part of the upcoming annual Copper Coast Cycling Cup on Saturday and Sunday, 8-9 October, Council is giving residents and visitors of all ages the chance to participate in their own FREE community cycling events.

Every year, the Copper Coast welcomes more than 200+ elite riders for Rounds 3 and 4 of the AUS Cycling Super Series as they compete for our Cup in Saturday's Wallaroo Road Race and Sunday's Moonta Criterium.

This year, Council encourages people to bring along their bikes and helmets as two new community events will be introduced at Queen Square on Sunday, 9 October.

An 8km Community Ride will commence at 12.30pm from Queen Square to Port Hughes (return) and a Community Come 'N' Try will take place on the Criterium course around Queen Square at 4pm.

“This is our way of creating more of a family-friendly atmosphere in Queen Square on the Sunday, where local food, beverages and entertainment will also be available,” Copper Coast Council Chief Executive Officer Russell Peate said.

“There has been a great turnout of residents and visitors to watch these professional cyclists in action over the years, and now they get the opportunity to see how they fare behind the handlebars.

“Racegoers are able to have the elite rider’s experience as they pedal to the metal along the same Criterium course during the Come 'N' Try.

“The Community Ride offers a leisurely experience from Moonta to the foreshore of Port Hughes to enjoy some of the Copper Coast’s beautiful sights.

“These family events would not be possible without the recent $7,200 grant Council received through the Sport Australia's Regional Sport Events Fund Grant—thank you Sport Australia.”
