Household Refuse Collection

General Waste Kerbside Collection

What can go in my red lid bin?

The red lid bin is for general household and business waste only.

Any waste that has been listed that can be placed in the yellow lid recycle bin or the food organics and green organics bin is NOT permitted to be placed in your general household and business waste bin.

Do not put the following items in your general waste bin:

  • building materials, bricks, tiles or large timber off-cuts
  • corrosive or acidic chemicals
  • electrical appliances
  • tree stumps or uncut palm fronds
  • motor parts or car batteries
  • liquids, paints, oils or solvents
  • sand, gravel or concrete
  • hot ashes
  • weeds with clumps of soil
  • used syringes, needles or sharps that are not inside a sealed impermeable container.

Ways to reduce the general waste bin content:

  • If your general waste bin is regularly full, review what is placed in the bin, check if anything should be going into the recycling or organics bin.
  • Utilise the Resource Recovery Centre as a lot of hazardous waste and recyclables can be dropped there with no or minimal charge – refer website for more details.
  • Consider other locations to deliver recyclables within the Copper Coast and South Australia – refer website for more details.
  • Consider other ways to recycle almost everything, outlets just need to take the initiative to incorporate these collections into their business and understand the potential for increased customer numbers that these initiatives can bring into their business. One of these options is the Zero Waste Box™ all-in-one system  from TerraCycle® that can be used by everyone to recycle everything. Information regarding this system can be found at  https://zerowasteboxes.terracycle.com.au/pages/how-the-zero-waste-box-system-works

  • REDcycle program

Did you know that you can recycle plastic bags, chip packets, muesli bar wrappers and toilet paper wrapping and much more at your local supermarkets?

Gather your soft plastics in a plastic bag and drop them off in the recycle bins at participating stores (Woolworths and Drakes), usually located as you walk in.

The softplastic material will be recycled into outdoor furniture and bollards.

The REDcycle Program is a true product stewardship model where manufacturers, retailers and consumers are sharing responsibility in creating a sustainable future significantly reducing the amount of plastic packaging going to landfill.
