Wallaroo Aquatics Facility

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Copper Coast Council secured $2.12 million in funding for the Wallaroo Aquatics Facility through Round 1 of the Australian Government’s Growing Regions Program. The whole project is valued at more than $5 Million, and is more than 50% funded by Council.

Council Cash and in-kind: $3,053,826
Australian Governments Growing Regions Program: $2,120,837
Total Project Cost = $5,174,663

Wallaroo’s aquatics area is set to undergo a long-awaited transformation into a state-of-the-art destination. The new facility will feature a jetty, access equipment, a shark barrier, shade and shelter, electrical works, pontoons and other engaging elements for both residents and tourists to enjoy.

The Aquatics Facility serves as the centerpiece of Council’s Wallaroo Foreshore Master Plan, extending from the Liberator Way entrance (Heritage Drive) to the Wallaroo Jetty car park (Jetty Road). This comprehensive plan aims to address erosion, create safer swimming areas, activate spaces for youth, streamline parking, improve the boat ramp vicinity, enhance access, manage stormwater effectively and preserve local heritage stories.

UPDATE 7th March 2025 - Project Commencement

Following protracted negotiations and delay, the funding agreement for the Australian Government’s Growing Regions Program funding was signed by Council this week. With the agreement now executed, the project may commence. The concepts completed through Council’s extensive community consultation will now undergo full design and engineering. This is an extensive process, which Council is committed to getting right. It will ensure a facility that stands the test of time, in a challenging coastal environment, and remains an inclusive community facility to be enjoyed by all for generations to come.

Like any coastal infrastructure project, actual construction is reliant on suitable weather conditions and may be subject to change. The estimated timeline for delivery of the project is provided below.
