Rainwater tanks store rainwater run-off from your roof and offer an alterative water supply for use in your home and garden.
Rainwater tanks are a great way to decrease your demand on treated water from mains water, as well as reducing the stormwater run-off which can pollute water ways.
In some circumstances rainwater tanks which meet certain criteria do not constitute development and therefore do not require development approval.
The proposed rainwater tank will not require development approval if:
it is part of a roof drainage system
it is located wholly above ground
has a total floor area not exceeding 10 square metres
has no part higher than 4 metres above the natural surface of the ground
not located within a State or Local Heritage place.
